Abstract

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has created un precedented challenges in data governance and regulatory compliance. As IoT networks generate massive volumes of sensitive information, ensuring
adherence to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other emerging data protection laws has become a critical necessity. This chapter provides a comprehensive examination of data governance frameworks tailored for IoT ecosystems, focusing on the intersection of security, privacy, and protection. We propose a robust methodology for implementing privacy-by-design principles and evaluating GDPR compliance across various IoT layers. Through exten sive simulation utilizing synthetic IoT network datasets, we present quantitative results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed governance framework in achieving high compliance scores while mitigating privacy risks. The findings underscore the importance of integrating automated compliance auditing and continuous monitoring mechanisms to sustain data protection standards in dynamic IoT environments.
