Abstract

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has catalyzed a paradigm shift in data generation, processing, and storage. While cloud integration offers unparalleled scalability and analytical capabilities for IoT ecosystems, it simultaneously introduces complex security vulnerabilities and data privacy challenges. This chapter pro vides a comprehensive exploration of secure cloud integration and data storage methodolo gies tailored for IoT applications. We systematically analyze the architectural components bridging IoT devices and cloud infrastructure, evaluating the efficacy of contemporary en cryption protocols, authentication mechanisms, and access control frameworks. A robust security methodology is proposed, integrating Transport Layer Security (TLS), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and advanced payload encryption to fortify data in transit and at rest. Through extensive simulation and performance analysis, we demonstrate the del icate balance between security overhead and system efficiency, quantifying the impact of encryption on latency and throughput. The results underscore that while robust security measures introduce marginal performance trade-offs, they are indispensable for mitigating unauthorized access and ensuring compliance with stringent data protection regulations such as GDPR. This chapter equips researchers and practitioners with actionable insights to architect resilient, secure, and scalable IoT-cloud ecosystems.
